Wenke Seemann was born in 1978 in Rostock and has lived in Berlin since 2000. She studied philosophy and social sciences at the University of Rostock and Humboldt University Berlin from 1997 to 2005 and completed training in artistic photography at imago Fotokunst in Berlin in 2010. As a freelance artist and social scientist, she works in her long-term project „Archivdialoge“ with her father's photographic estate — he worked, among others, for the Ostsee-Studio Rostock — examining East German prefabricated housing estates such as Rostock-Lichtenhagen and Groß Klein; she presented the results in a 2022 solo exhibition „Utopie auf Platte“ at the Kunsthalle Rostock, as well as at the Albertinum Dresden and the Sprengel Museum Hannover, among other venues. In 2024 she published the conversational book „Drei ostdeutsche Frauen betrinken sich und gründen den idealen Staat“ together with Annett Gröschner and Peggy Mädler at Hanser, which was also staged as a play at Staatsschauspiel Dresden in 2025.
