Biography

Traudl Bünger was born in Siegburg in 1975, studied literature and mathematics at the University of Cologne and earned her doctorate with a thesis on narrative computer games. After a traineeship in the editorial department of Kiepenheuer & Witsch, she began shaping the programme of the lit.Cologne festival in 2004 and was its programme director until 2018; in 2017 she co-founded lit.Ruhr. With Roger Willemsen she wrote the stage programme “Ich gebe Ihnen mein Ehrenwort”, which Willemsen performed with Dieter Hildebrandt more than 80 times and which S. Fischer published as a book in 2007. Her publications include the novel “Lieblingskinder” (2012), the book “Eisernes Schweigen” (2024) with a WDR podcast of the same name, and “Cum/Ex, Milliarden und Moral” (2025), written with the former prosecutor Anne Brorhilker. At Schauspiel Köln she hosts the talk series “Baby, don’t give up!” and is writing the play “Der Tag, an dem ich Cum/Ex verstand” with Calle Fuhr, whose world premiere is announced for 2027.
