Thomas Zaufke

Biography

Thomas Zaufke was born in Bremen in 1966 and studied at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin from 1987, also appearing on stage as a musical performer during his studies. He has written musicals and incidental music since 1995. His long collaboration with the writer and director Peter Lund produced a series of musicals premiered at the Neuköllner Oper in Berlin, among them “Baby Talk” (2000), “Elternabend” (2003) and “Mein Avatar und ich” (2010). He has composed incidental music for the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and the GRIPS Theater, among others, as well as songs and chansons for performers such as Ina Müller, Rea Garvey and Sasha. With the writer Henry Mason he created “Alice im Wunderland” (2012), “Der Hase mit den Bernsteinaugen” (2019) and “Die Königinnen” (2024). “Der Hase mit den Bernsteinaugen” earned him the German Musical Theatre Award for best composition in 2019, and in 2022 he became the first recipient of the GEMA Foundation's Paul Abraham Prize.
