Biography

Theresia Walser was born in Friedrichshafen in 1967, the youngest daughter of writer Martin Walser. She first trained as a geriatric nurse before studying acting at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Bern from 1990 to 1994 and spending two years as an ensemble member at the Junges Theater Göttingen. With her stage debut "Kleine Zweifel", premiered by director Dieter Dorn at the Münchner Kammerspiele in 1997, she turned to playwriting and has since written comedies marked by grotesque elements. The theatre journal Theater heute named her best emerging playwright in 1998 and best German-language playwright in 1999, and from 2013 to 2014 she served as resident playwright at the Nationaltheater Mannheim. Her best-known plays include "Ich bin wie ihr, ich liebe Äpfel" and "Die Empörten", which have been translated into numerous languages.
