Biography

Stefan Kaegi was born in Solothurn in 1972 and studied philosophy in Basel, art in Zurich and Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen. There he met Helgard Haug and Daniel Wetzel, with whom he began developing joint projects in 2000 and has worked under the name Rimini Protokoll since 2002. His works combine documentary theatre, audio pieces and productions in urban space, and often feature people without acting training as “experts” of their own everyday lives. His best-known productions include “Mnemopark” (2005), “Cargo Sofia-X” (2006), “Radio Muezzin” (2009), the audio city walk “Remote X”, the installation “Nachlass – Pièces sans personnes” (2016) and “Uncanny Valley” (2018), featuring a robot double of the writer Thomas Melle; together with Lola Arias he created works such as “Airport Kids” and “Ciudades Paralelas”. With Rimini Protokoll he received the German theatre award Der Faust (2007), the European Theatre Prize (2008), the Silver Lion of the Venice Theatre Biennale (2011) and the Swiss Grand Prix Theatre/Hans Reinhart Ring (2015); in 2018 he won an award at the Bitef festival in Belgrade for “Nachlass”.
