Biography
Sarah Nemitz was born in Düsseldorf in 1964, grew up in Cologne and studied dance there at the Institut für Bühnentanz, followed by German, philosophy and art history. From 1989 to 1993 she was a member of the ensemble of the Rheinisches Landestheater Neuss, during which time she was named best young actress at the North Rhine-Westphalia theatre festival; she later performed at the Theater der Landeshauptstadt Magdeburg and the Theater Bielefeld, among others, and in film and television productions such as Margarethe von Trotta’s “Rosenstraße” and “Jahrestage”. Since 2001 she has written continuously with Lutz Hübner; at first she was credited as a collaborator, but the plays now appear under both their names. Their joint works include “Hotel Paraiso”, “Frau Müller muss weg” (2010), “Die Firma dankt” (2011), “Furor” (2018) and “Abiball” (2018); for the screenplay of the film version of “Frau Müller muss weg” the duo received the Bavarian Film Award in 2015 together with Oliver Ziegenbalg. Nemitz and Hübner are among the most frequently performed contemporary playwrights in Germany and develop many of their plays in close consultation with the theatres that premiere them.
