Biography

Sarah Calörtscher was born in the Swiss canton of Graubünden in 1991 and works where writing, dramaturgy and music meet. After a bachelor’s degree in music and movement she studied dramaturgy at the Zurich University of the Arts; she worked as a dramaturg and assistant director at Theater Neumarkt in Zurich and plays in the bands Strange Modes and crisprbaby. Her first play, “Herz aus Polyester”, was developed in the Dramenprozessor writers’ programme, won the Kleist Förderpreis for young playwrights in 2024 and premiered at the Deutsches Theater Berlin in September 2024. “Die Rückkehr der Fährfrauen*” followed at the Luzerner Theater in 2025; that same year she was artist in residence at the Heidelberg quantum physics research network ISOQUANT in cooperation with the Nationaltheater Mannheim. Her commissioned play “Drill Baby Drill” for the Staatstheater Nürnberg opened in February 2026 and won the audience award at the first Swiss PLAY festival.
