Biography
Paul Morgan, born Georg Paul Morgenstern, was born in Vienna in 1886 and made his stage debut in 1908 at the Theater in der Josefstadt. During the 1920s he became known as a compère in revues staged by Rudolf Nelson and Herman Haller, and in late 1924 co-founded the Kabarett der Komiker in Berlin together with Kurt Robitschek and Max Hansen. Between 1919 and 1933 he appeared in more than 50 films and briefly worked in Hollywood in 1930 on German-language versions of American productions. In 1936 he co-wrote, with Adolf Schütz, the book for Ralph Benatzky's operetta "Axel an der Himmelstür". In 1938 Morgan was arrested and deported via Dachau concentration camp to Buchenwald, where he died in December of that year.
