Biography
Patrick Marber was born in London in 1964, grew up in Wimbledon and studied English at Wadham College, Oxford. He began his career as a stand-up comedian and writer for radio and television comedies such as On the House and Knowing Me, Knowing You with Steve Coogan. In 1995 his first stage play, Dealer's Choice, premiered at the Royal National Theatre and later transferred to the West End. With Closer, which he also directed himself at the National Theatre in 1997, he wrote his most internationally successful play; later work included Howard Katz and his Oscar-nominated screenplay adaptation of Notes on a Scandal.
