Biography
Patrick Barlow was born on 18 March 1947 in Leicester and, after studying in Birmingham, began working as an actor and assistant director, among other things with the company Inter-Action. In 1980 he founded the two-man company National Theatre of Brent with Julian Hough, writing and performing numerous stage shows for it under his comic alter ego Desmond Olivier Dingle. He became internationally known in 2005 for his stage adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock's film "The 39 Steps", developed from an original idea by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon, which went on to win several awards in London and on Broadway. His other plays include "The Messiah" (1983) and "The Wonder of Sex" (2001, premiered at the Royal National Theatre, London).
