Biography

Özlem Özgül Dündar was born in Solingen in 1983 and studied literature and philosophy at the University of Wuppertal, with study periods in Ireland, Turkey and Paris; from 2014 to 2020 she attended the German Literature Institute in Leipzig. She writes poetry, prose, texts for the stage and essays, translates Turkish poetry into German and works in collectives such as Ministerium für Mitgefühl and kollektiv flexen. In 2015 she received the Retzhof Drama Prize for “Jardin d’Istanbul” and the Wolfgang Weyrauch Förderpreis, and in 2018 the Kelag Prize at the Days of German-Language Literature in Klagenfurt. Her play “türken, feuer”, which takes the 1993 Solingen arson attack as its starting point, premiered at the Hessisches Landestheater Marburg in September 2019; the WDR radio version was named Radio Play of the Year 2020. Schauspielhaus Bochum premiered her commissioned monologue “Mädchenschrift” in 2022, which won the German-Dutch Kaas & Kappes award in 2023.
