Biography

Nico Sauer, born in Munich in 1986, is a composer, performer and multimedia artist whose work links instrumental and electronic music with video, installation, theatre and performance. He studied composition in Karlsruhe with Wolfgang Rihm and Markus Hechtle from 2010 to 2015, in Geneva with Michael Jarrell in 2012/13 and in Dresden with Manos Tsangaris and Franz Martin Olbrisch from 2015 to 2018. His projects include the music theatre piece “LOVE ME” at the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum Dresden (2016), “Moonbreaker 2121”, which in 2021 imagined a music festival on the moon, and the traffic opera “RÜBER”, which took audiences through the city by taxi at the Munich Biennale for New Music Theatre in 2024. In February 2026 Theater Münster premiered his music theatre piece “Die Kantine”, which brings the normally hidden backstage work of an opera house onto the stage. “Ach, Mom!” won the first open call of Deutsches Theater Berlin for its Box studio, where he premiered the piece as author and director in April 2026.
