Biography
Nick Stafford, born in 1959 in Staffordshire, trained at Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance and became writer-in-residence at London's Half Moon Young People's Theatre in 1987. He wrote numerous stage plays, including Battle Royal (1999, National Theatre) and Luminosity (2001, Royal Shakespeare Company), as well as radio dramas for BBC Radio 4, one of which, A Matter of Sex, won the Sony Gold Award in 1993. He became internationally known in 2007 for his stage adaptation of Michael Morpurgo's novel War Horse for the National Theatre, which was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award in 2008 and won the Tony Award for Best Play in 2011. Stafford continues to work as a freelance writer for theatre, radio and television.
