Biography
Nava Ebrahimi was born in Tehran in 1978, came to Germany as a child, attended the Cologne School of Journalism and studied economics in Cologne. Before turning to fiction she worked as an editor for Financial Times Deutschland and the Cologne magazine StadtRevue and as a Middle East specialist for Germany's federal foreign trade agency. Her first novel “Sechzehn Wörter” (2017) won the debut prize of the Austrian Book Prize, and “Das Paradies meines Nachbarn” followed in 2020. In 2021 she won the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize with her text “Der Cousin”, and in 2023 Vienna's Volkstheater premiered “Die Cousinen”, a stage piece developed from it. Her novel “Und Federn überall” (2025), set in a small town in Emsland around a poultry slaughterhouse, was longlisted for the German Book Prize, received the Péter Horváth Literature Prize and was first adapted for the stage in Munich in 2026. In 2025 she also gave the Klagenfurt Speech on Literature, titled “Drei Tage im Mai”.
