Biography
Nassim Soleimanpour was born in Tehran in 1981 and studied set design at the University of Tehran, where he later taught computer-aided set design; alongside this he wrote poems, short stories and plays. Having refused military service, he was denied a passport and could not leave Iran until 2013. In this situation he wrote White Rabbit Red Rabbit in 2010, a play read each night by a different performer, without rehearsal, from a sealed envelope; after its premiere in Toronto and Edinburgh in 2011 it was translated into dozens of languages. Works built on related principles followed, among them Blind Hamlet (2014) and Nassim (2017), in which the author himself appears on stage and which won a Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe; Echo opened at London’s Royal Court Theatre in 2024. Soleimanpour runs the company Nassim Soleimanpour Productions.
