Biography

Michael Brown, born Marion Martin Brown, was born in Mexia, Texas, in 1920 and studied at the University of Texas at Austin. From 1948 he performed his own songs at the New York nightclub Le Ruban Bleu and later wrote for Julius Monk's revues. On Broadway he became known for Lizzie Borden from New Faces of 1952; The John Birch Society also spread widely through recordings by the Chad Mitchell Trio. He produced industrial musicals for companies such as J. C. Penney and DuPont, including The Wonderful World of Chemistry for the 1964 New York World's Fair, and wrote the Santa Mouse series of children's books (from 1966). He contributed music and lyrics to the revue Secrets Every Smart Traveler Should Know (1997). He died in New York in 2014.
