Biography
Maurus Lindemayr was born on 17 November 1723 in Neukirchen bei Lambach and died there on 19 July 1783. As a Benedictine monk of Lambach Abbey, he served for 24 years as parish priest of his home parish while also writing plays and poems in the Upper Austrian Hausruck dialect. His best-known work, Der kurzweilige Hochzeitsvertrag, was written in 1770 for Marie Antoinette's visit to Lambach Abbey. Lindemayr is regarded as one of the first widely known dialect poets of Upper Austria and a pioneer of Bavarian dialect in written form.
