Lutz Hübner was born in Heilbronn in 1964, studied German, philosophy and sociology in Münster and trained as an actor from 1986 at the Hochschule des Saarlandes für Musik und Theater in Saarbrücken. After engagements in Saarbrücken and Karlsruhe he worked from 1990 to 1996 as an actor and director at the Rheinisches Landestheater Neuss and the Theater der Landeshauptstadt Magdeburg; since 1996 he has been a freelance writer and director. He first made his name with plays for young audiences, such as “Das Herz eines Boxers”, which won the German Youth Theatre Prize in 1998. Since 2001 he has written continuously with Sarah Nemitz; their joint successes include “Hotel Paraiso” (invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen in 2005), “Frau Müller muss weg” (2010) and “Die Firma dankt” (2011), both of which were also adapted for the screen. According to the German Stage Association’s statistics he was already the most performed contemporary playwright on German stages in the 1999/2000 season; his plays have been translated into more than a dozen languages, and in 2016 he received the prize of the Frankfurt Authors’ Foundation.
