Biography
Luis August Krawen was born in Bremen, grew up in Berlin and was a long-standing member of P14, the youth theatre of the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. From 2016 he studied applied theatre studies in Giessen, where he turned to 3D animation, and later completed a degree in stage design at the Berlin University of the Arts. As a video artist he created projections and digital imagery for, among others, Alexander Giesche's staging of Max Frisch's „Der Mensch erscheint im Holozän“, which was invited to the 2020 Theatertreffen, for the double bill „Pierrot Lunaire / La Voix Humaine“ at the Hamburg State Opera, and in 2022 for Valentin Schwarz's „Ring“ and Roland Schwab's „Tristan und Isolde“ at the Bayreuth Festival. From the 2020/21 season he was artist in residence at the Münchner Kammerspiele, where his own works such as „Nightcore“ and the animated film „Planet Magnon“ were created. For the 2026/27 season a jury selected him for the Berliner Ensemble's early-career directing programme WORX, where he is creating the play „Die Letzten werden die Allerletzten sein“ with Martha Mechow and directing it himself. His work centres thematically on class and technology.
