Biography
Luigi Nono was born in Venice in 1924, first studied law before turning to composition, which he studied with Gian Francesco Malipiero and Bruno Maderna. In 1955 he married Nuria Schoenberg, daughter of Arnold Schoenberg, and in 1952 he had joined the Italian Communist Party. His works combined avant-garde compositional technique with political commitment, addressing themes such as intolerance, fascism and the bombing of Hiroshima. From around 1960 he increasingly experimented with electronic music, culminating in his late work "Prometeo" (1984). Nono died in Venice in 1990.
