Biography
Lucia Ronchetti was born in Rome in 1963. She studied composition and electronic music at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia and humanities at Sapienza University, graduating in 1987 with a thesis on Bruno Maderna; in Paris she attended seminars with Gérard Grisey and the 1997 annual course at IRCAM, and in 1999 she received a doctorate in musicology from the École Pratique des Hautes Études under François Lesure. In 2005 she went to Columbia University in New York as a Fulbright visiting scholar at the invitation of Tristan Murail. Since 2003 she has worked with the SWR Experimentalstudio in Freiburg, and she collaborates closely with the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart. Her stage works include “Esame di mezzanotte” (Nationaltheater Mannheim, 2015), voted premiere of the year in the Opernwelt critics’ poll, the chamber opera “Rivale” (Staatsoper Unter den Linden, 2017), the Dante opera “Inferno” for Oper Frankfurt (2021) and “Der Doppelgänger” after Dostoevsky (Schwetzingen SWR Festival, 2024). From 2021 to 2024 she was artistic director of the Biennale Musica in Venice; she teaches composition at the conservatory in Salerno.
