Biography

Liv Strömquist was born on 3 February 1978 in Lund, grew up in the Österlen region of southern Sweden and now lives in Malmö. After studying political science, she established herself from the early 2000s as a comics artist and columnist for Swedish newspapers and magazines, and also hosted programmes for Swedish public radio, Sveriges Radio. In her essayistic graphic novels she combines pop culture, philosophy, sociology and history to critically question social norms around love, family, the body and gender relations. She became internationally known with books such as “Prins Charles känsla” (published in German as “Der Ursprung der Liebe”, 2010) and “Kunskapens frukt” (“Fruit of Knowledge”, 2014), which have been translated into more than twenty languages. For her work she has received awards including Germany's Max und Moritz Prize and Sweden's Adamson Award.
