Biography

Lion Christ was born in Bad Tölz in 1994. At the University of Television and Film Munich he started out in documentary film and television journalism before turning to screenwriting; he then studied literary writing at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig. In 2018 he reached the final of the Berlin literary competition open mike, and his short prose has appeared in anthologies and magazines such as BELLA triste and Akzente. For his first novel, Sauhund, he received Munich's literary fellowship in 2021; the book, about a young man from rural Upper Bavaria in Munich's gay scene of the 1980s, was published by Hanser in 2023. The Münchner Kammerspiele premiered a stage version directed by Florian Fischer in June 2025. The same year saw the release of the feature film Obhut, a co-production with Bayerischer Rundfunk, which Christ co-wrote.
