Biography

Leo Meier, born in Berlin in 1995, works as an actor and writes plays. He first studied theatre studies and philosophy at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum and trained as an actor at the Folkwang University of the Arts from 2015 to 2019; the graduation piece “Tote gehen nicht ins Kino”, developed with Rudi Klein and Yannik Heckmann, earned him the Folkwang Prize. His first solo play, “zwei herren von real madrid”, won the audience prize and the SWR2 radio drama prize at the Heidelberger Stückemarkt in 2022; it premiered at Theater Oberhausen in January 2023, and Schauspiel Leipzig’s production received the festival’s Nachspielpreis in 2023. Further premieres were “Ich, Akira” (with Noëlle Haeseling, Saarländisches Staatstheater, 2022), “Spielerfrauen” (with Laura Dabelstein, Berliner Ensemble, 2024), “fünf minuten stille” (Münchner Volkstheater, 2024) and “auf der suche nach dem verlorenen bagger” (Staatsschauspiel Dresden, 2025), which was invited to the Autor:innentheatertage at Deutsches Theater Berlin in 2026. As an actor he has appeared at Schauspielhaus Bochum and Schauspielhaus Hamburg, among others, and on screen in films such as “Sörensen hat Angst” (2020) and “Axiom” (2022).
