Biography

Yuri Khanon was born on 16 June 1965 in Leningrad (now St Petersburg) and works as a composer, pianist, writer and painter. He became known, among other things, for his film score for Alexander Sokurov's "Days of Eclipse" (1988), which won a Special Prize of the European Film Academy, and for the opera "The Shagreen Hide" (1992). The first movement of his "Middle Symphony" became the basis, in 1998, for Alexei Ratmansky's ballet "Middle Duet." Since the 1990s Khanon has largely withdrawn from public musical life and publishes his writing chiefly on his own website, "Khanograf."
