Biography

Jorinde Dröse was born in Hanau in 1976, studied dramaturgy at the Theaterakademie München from 1996 and directing at the University of Hamburg from 1998; assistantships took her to the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg and Theater Basel. From 2002 to 2009 she directed regularly at the Thalia Theater Hamburg and also worked in Bochum, Munich, Leipzig and Frankfurt, among other cities. From 2010 to 2013 she was a house director at the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, where her productions included Ibsen’s “Nora oder Ein Puppenheim” and Fallada’s “Jeder stirbt für sich allein”. After a break of several years from the theatre, during which she worked as a forest educator, she returned to directing in the 2021/22 season and has since focused on feminist narratives and diversity. In this period she directed the world premiere of “Das Augenlid ist ein Muskel” at Deutsches Theater Berlin (2022) and “Die Wut, die bleibt” at the Salzburg Festival (2023), among others. With the actress Claude De Demo she developed the solo evening “#Motherfuckinghood” at the Berliner Ensemble in 2024, followed in 2025 by the project “Superwomen”, created with De Demo and the ensemble of RambaZamba Theater.
