Biography
John Clancy is an American playwright, novelist and theatre director. He was a co-founder and the first artistic director of the New York International Fringe Festival and of its producing organisation, The Present Company. His plays deal with American life and work with dark humour and farce; the best known is Fatboy: An American Grotesque, a modern reworking of Alfred Jarry's Ubu Roi. His monologue The Event premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2009, won a Fringe First and then toured to countries including Germany, the Netherlands, Australia and the United States. As a director, Clancy has received several Fringe First awards in Edinburgh and a 2005 Obie Award for sustained excellence of direction.
