Biography
Gunnar Klack was born in Hamburg in 1979 and studied architecture at the Berlin University of the Arts and the Glasgow School of Art. In 2013 he earned his doctorate at the Technical University of Berlin with a thesis on the architects Hermann Fehling and Daniel Gogel. From 2007 to 2011 he wrote as a freelance author for the music magazine Spex; he later worked at the Berlinische Galerie and the Peenemünde Historical Technical Museum, among other institutions, and since 2019 he has been a heritage-conservation consultant in architectural competitions. In essays and as a commentator for Deutschlandfunk Kultur and SWR he writes about architectural history, heritage conservation and controversial buildings such as nuclear power plants; in 2020 he and the art historian Felix Torkar campaigned to preserve Berlin's “Mäusebunker”. For the theatre he co-wrote with Kristof Magnusson the end-of-the-world comedy “Apokalypse Miau”, which premiered at the Volkstheater Wien in 2022, and the comedy “In bester Lage” for Schauspiel Köln (2026).
