Biography
Gerhard Kneifel was born in Trebbin in 1927 and died in Leipzig in 1992. As a child he learned the accordion, and from 1946 to 1948 he studied trombone, double bass and composition at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin. From 1948 he worked in radio and the recording industry; from 1963 to 1967 he was chief arranger at the Friedrichstadt-Palast Berlin, and from 1960 he led the Leipzig Radio Dance Orchestra. Alongside popular songs and chansons, he composed stage works for East Germany's light musical theatre, among them the operetta "Die schwarze Perle" (1962) and the musical "Bretter, die die Welt bedeuten" (1970).
