Biography
Franz Liszt was born in 1811 in Raiding in western Hungary. After training in Vienna, he moved to Paris in 1823, where he established himself as one of the leading piano virtuosos of his time. From the 1840s he served as court music director in Weimar, where he created the symphonic poem as a new orchestral genre and, alongside Richard Wagner, became a leading figure of the New German School. He died in 1886 in Bayreuth.
