Biography

Francesca Blumenthal writes songs and revues, above all for the New York cabaret stage; her composing partners include Addy Fieger and Lanny Meyers. She became known for her ballad The Lies of Handsome Men, recorded by Cleo Laine, Margaret Whiting, Blossom Dearie and Donna McKechnie, among others. Her songs formed the basis of the revues Life Is Not Like the Movies, Places, Please! and Places, Please! Act Two. She wrote lyrics for the Off-Broadway revue Secrets Every Smart Traveler Should Know (1997) and also contributed material to the Alice revues. In 2001 she received the Backstage Bistro Award, the MAC Award and a special ASCAP prize.
