Biography

Fiona Sironic was born in Neuss in 1995 and studied creative writing and cultural journalism in Hildesheim, then language arts at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and gender studies at the University of Vienna. In 2019 she won the 27th open mike competition in Berlin; besides prose in literary magazines and anthologies, she has published journalism about video games, for instance in the magazine fluter. In 2024 an excerpt from her first novel earned her a workshop grant as part of the German Prize for Nature Writing. “Am Samstag gehen die Mädchen in den Wald und jagen Sachen in die Luft” came out in March 2025 with Ecco, part of the HarperCollins Germany group, and was shortlisted for the German Book Prize. In June 2026, invited by Laura de Weck, she was the first author to read in the competition for the 50th Ingeborg Bachmann Prize, presenting the text “Mikrobieller Befall”; the same year the city of Krefeld awarded her the Lower Rhine Literature Prize. The first stage version of her novel premiered at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden in September 2026.
