Biography
Deldevez was born in Paris in 1817 and studied violin with François-Antoine Habeneck and music theory with Fromental Halévy at the Paris Conservatoire. He spent two decades as a violinist in the city's major orchestras before turning to conducting. From 1859 he was deputy, and from 1873 principal conductor at the Paris Opéra, leading the opening of the Palais Garnier in 1875, and he also conducted the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire. As a composer he wrote, among other works, the score for the ballet Paquita (1846) as well as several symphonies and chamber works.
