Edmond Audran

Biography

Edmond Audran was born in Lyon in 1840 and died in 1901. The son of the Opéra-Comique tenor Marius-Pierre Audran, he studied at the École Niedermeyer under Jules Duprato, winning its composition prize in 1859. He first worked as an organist in Marseille and wrote sacred music before turning to the stage; he moved to Paris in 1879. His most successful operettas include "Les noces d'Olivette" (1879), "La mascotte" (1880) and "La poupée" (1896).
