Biography

Douglas Bernstein was born in New York in 1958. At Amherst College he wrote satirical student revues with Denis Markell, whom he had met around 1974 at a music summer camp in Maine. He moved to New York in 1980 and made his debut as a writer and performer in Martin Charnin's revue Upstairs at O'Neals in 1982. With Markell he wrote scripts for the television series Silver Spoons and The Charmings as well as the Off-Broadway revue Showing Off (1989), in which he also performed. His other stage work includes the book for The No Frills Revue, the Allan Sherman revue Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh! and contributions to the Alice revues; for Secrets Every Smart Traveler Should Know (1997) he contributed music and lyrics.
