Biography
Dennis Kelly was born in Barnet, near London, in 1970 and studied drama at Goldsmiths College, University of London. He made his professional debut in 2003 at London's Theatre 503 with the play "Debris", followed by works including "Osama the Hero" (2005), "Love and Money" (2006) and "DNA" (2008), which became a set text in English schools. In 2010 he wrote the book for the musical "Matilda", based on Roald Dahl's novel, for which he won the 2013 Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical. For Channel 4 he wrote the 2013 series "Utopia", which won an International Emmy, and in 2018 the widely staged monologue "Girls & Boys". Kelly also received the Meyer-Whitworth Award (2006) and the John Whiting Award (2007).
