David Adjmi

Biography

David Adjmi was born in New York in 1973 and grew up in the Syrian Jewish community of Midwood, Brooklyn. He studied at Sarah Lawrence College, at the Playwrights Workshop of the University of Iowa and in the playwriting program of the Juilliard School. His plays include “The Evildoers” and “Stunning” (both 2008), “Marie Antoinette” and “3C” (both 2012) and “The Stumble” (2018). In 2020 he published the memoir “Lot Six” about his youth in Brooklyn. His play “Stereophonic”, about a rock band in a 1970s recording studio, premiered at Playwrights Horizons in New York in 2023, became the first play to receive 13 Tony nominations in 2024 and won five, including Best Play. Adjmi has also received a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Whiting Award and the Steinberg Playwright Award, among other honours.
