Biography

Dan Goggin was born on 31 May 1943 in Alma, Michigan. He started out as a singer in the Broadway production of Luther starring Albert Finney, then toured for five years with the folk duo The Saxons and composed the music for the off-Broadway musical Hark!. He went on to write music and lyrics for satirical revues about current events and personalities. From a series of humorous greeting cards featuring a nun he developed first a cabaret show and then the musical Nunsense, for which he wrote book, music and lyrics; the New York production opened in 1985, ran for 3,672 performances and won Outer Critics Circle Awards, including Best Off-Broadway Musical. The show has been translated into more than 20 languages and opened in German as Non(n)sens in Düsseldorf in 1989. Goggin wrote several sequels, among them Nunsense II: The Second Coming, Nuncrackers and Meshuggah-Nuns!, as well as the musicals A One-Way Ticket to Broadway and Balancing Act.
