Biography
Clemens Sienknecht was born in Hamburg in 1964. After dropping out of studies in sport and music and playing in his first bands, he moved into theatre and worked as a pianist at stages from Kiel to Zurich. Since 1993 he has worked continuously with the director Christoph Marthaler, first as a musician in “Goethes Faust √1+2”, later in productions such as “Stunde Null oder die Kunst des Servierens” (1996). His own work has taken him to Hanover, Basel, Zurich, Düsseldorf, Berlin and Cologne, among other cities. With Barbara Bürk he developed “Effi Briest – allerdings mit anderem Text und auch anderer Melodie” (2015/16 season), in which he also appears as musician and performer; the evening was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen in 2016 and won the Hamburg Rolf Mares theatre prize. In the same format followed “Anna Karenina”, “Die Nibelungen” and, in 2025, “Kabale und Liebe” in Hamburg, as well as “Die Hermannsschlacht” and “Romeo und Julia” at the Schauspielhaus Bochum, among others.
