Biography

Barry Creyton was born in Brisbane in 1939 into a family of actors. From 1964 he was a performer and writer on the Australian satirical programme The Mavis Bramston Show and later had his own television show; early on he also wrote material for Sydney cabaret revues. From 1968 to 1977 he worked mainly for the BBC in England, including Take Three Girls and Doctor in Charge. As a playwright he wrote Lady Audley's Secret and How the West Was Lost for the Sydney Music Hall, the farce Follow That Husband and Double Act (1987), which has been translated into numerous languages; Valentine's Day opened in 2000 as Valentinstag at the Weyher Theater near Bremen. He wrote sketches for the Off-Broadway revue Secrets Every Smart Traveler Should Know (1997). In 1988 he received the Norman Kessell Memorial Award.
