Biography
Barbi Marković was born in Belgrade in 1980, studied German studies there and has lived in Vienna since 2006, completing a degree at the University of Vienna in 2013. Her debut, published in 2009 under the title „Ausgehen“, was followed by novels such as „Superheldinnen“ (2016) and „Die verschissene Zeit“ (2021). She served as city writer of Graz in 2011/12 and received the support prize of the Adelbert von Chamisso Prize in 2017 for „Superheldinnen“. Alongside her prose, Marković also writes for the stage, including the play „InBetween“, which premiered in Ankara in 2014. Her prose collection „Minihorror“ won the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in 2024. From the 2026/27 season she is resident playwright at the Nationaltheater Mannheim.
