Biography
Anno Schreier was born in Aachen in 1979 and studied composition with Manfred Trojahn at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf, at the Royal College of Music in London and in Hans-Jürgen von Bose's master class in Munich. His main focus is music theatre: “Die Stadt der Blinden”, after José Saramago, premiered at Zurich Opera House in 2011, “Hamlet” at the Theater an der Wien in 2016 and “Schade, dass sie eine Hure war”, after John Ford, at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf in 2019. With the librettist Georg Holzer he wrote “Turing”, premiered at the Staatstheater Nürnberg in 2022, where their opera “Cosa Nostra” is also scheduled for November 2026. From 2008 to 2024 he taught music theory at the Karlsruhe University of Music. His awards include a fellowship at the German Academy Villa Massimo in Rome (2010) and the Deutscher Musikautorenpreis in the music theatre category (2017).
