Biography
Anne Pauly was born in the Paris banlieue in 1974 and studied modern literature at Paris Nanterre University; from 2014 to 2016 she took the master's programme in creative writing at Paris 8 University. Professionally she worked, among other things, as an editorial secretary, for instance for GQ magazine. In 2019 Verdier published her debut novel “Avant que j'oublie”, in which she tells of her father's death and the clearing of his house; it won the Prix du Livre Inter and the Prix Robert Walser in 2020 and appeared in German as “Bevor ich es vergesse” in 2024. In 2025 the Münchner Kammerspiele premiered a stage version by Wiebke Puls. Pauly also writes short stories for magazines, scripts for a television series and texts for the theatre, including a play for the Centre dramatique national Besançon Franche-Comté. Together with Virginie Despentes, Paul B. Preciado and Julien Delmaire she wrote “Woke”, Despentes' first work as a theatre director, which opened at the Théâtre du Nord in Lille in March 2024.
