Biography

Amélie Nothomb was born on 9 July 1966 in Etterbeek near Brussels, the daughter of diplomat Baron Patrick Nothomb, and spent her childhood in Japan, China and the United States, among other countries. After studying Romance philology at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, she returned to Belgium in 1992 and published her debut novel, "Hygiène de l'assassin." She has published a new text almost every year since, including novels, short stories and plays such as "Les Combustibles." Her work has won awards including the Académie française's Grand Prix du Roman and the Prix Renaudot.
