Biography
Alfred Dorfer was born in Vienna in 1961, began studying theatre studies and German at the University of Vienna and soon switched to acting training; in 1983 he was engaged at the Theater in der Josefstadt. He had his first successes with the cabaret group Schlabarett, and in 1989 he appeared with Josef Hader in their joint show “Freizeitmesse”. In 1991 the two wrote the tragicomedy “Indien”, which won the main prize of the Austrian Kleinkunstpreis and was filmed in 1993 with both of them in the leading roles; “Muttertag”, “Freispiel”, “Wanted” and “Ravioli” likewise became films based on stage pieces he had written alone or with colleagues. Since 1993 he has toured with solo shows such as “heim.at” (German Kleinkunstpreis 2002), “fremd” and “GLEICH” (2024); on television he played Mr Weber in the series “MA 2412” from 1998 and hosted “Dorfers Donnerstalk” on ORF from 2004 to 2010. In 2011 he earned his doctorate at the University of Vienna with a thesis on satire in restrictive systems in 20th-century Europe.
